Dear Starling Families,
We are so excited to begin a new school year at Starling Elementary. As we prepare we would like to encourage you to allow students to bring technology devices to school each and every day as we take full advantage of the district’s Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) initiative in which technology is an integral part of teaching and learning.
We are also preparing to continue the implementation of the Positive Behavior Interventions and Support (PBIS) program in which students are recognized for positive behaviors. Our school has been recommended to the state for a high level of PBIS recognition as a result of our discipline practices.
In 2016-17 we will continue to maximize every moment of instructional time we have with your children. We commit to you to stay focused on teaching and learning as a top priority. You can help us by making sure students arrive to school on time each day. If students ride the bus, they are all inside the building by 8:00 a.m. If you choose to drive your child, we would like to request that you get students here at 7:45 a.m. when the doors open each morning. Teachers will have students engaged in learning activities beginning at 7:45. Thank you for your assistance in helping us maximize instructional time each and every day.
I encourage every family to join and volunteer with PTA. We have a fabulous PTA with so many opportunities to get involved. Our goal is 100% PTA membership! Most recently the PTA purchased a new front desk for our lobby which will allow for multiple staff members to sign in parents. We thank PTA for their dedication to the safety of our students each day!
As we begin the new school year, please make sure to keep the lines of communication open with your child’s teacher. She/he will always be your first contact for any questions or concerns you may have. Parents and teachers working together will increase your child’s achievement and serves as a great model for students as to how to work effectively as a team. Did you know that working in effective teams is one of the skills that business leaders cite as the most important for being successful in the 21st Century workplace?
Thank you for your continued support of our educational program. We look forward to a great year!
